Whether you are just starting out on the computer, or need help getting a specific task done, Seema Kenney's new venture, Technical Tutoring, is for you. "It's computer software training for small businesses and home PC users," clarified Kenney, explaining that the training classes are for novices or those who have minimal computer skills but need to go a bit further.
Kenney is an organized, productive, and dependable individual with excellent time management and staff development skills. She is comfortable with both prepared and impromptu presentations to large or small gatherings. She enjoys helping others learn in group or individual settings. Seema is articulate and calm and patient by nature. she enjoys helping people become proficient with what they otherwise considered overbearing and intimidating. "I find out what they need to learn, find out how much time they want to spend, and start at a level comfortable for them, " said Kenney, who launched the business last April.
Technical Tutoring''s headquarters is at Seema's Sadler Road home in Upton; though, generally, she travels to her client's home or office to train on their own equipment. Printed materials written in plain English, along with appropriate practice files on diskette, are provided to each student for reference during and after class. Often, one or two classes are all that are necessary to educate the user. Instruction includes Microsoft's Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Windows 95/98, software package upgrades, and the internet. Clients can mix and match these topics, creating a custom course offered at three different training levels. All instructors are certified by Microsoft in multiple Office products.
Seema has seventeen years of experience in the computer field, and certification in Training and Development. Her teaching experience covers all Microsoft products and class sizes ranging from one to 19 people. She holds bachelor degrees in Spanish and political science from Annhurst College in Woodstock, Connecticut, and in business administration and computer systems management from Northeastern University. She iss dedicated to helping others through the effective use of available technology. Employing real life analogies and the software on a daily basis, she makes class time interesting and informative.
Seema and her husband Timothey have three boys: Sean, 11, and Ryan and Tyler, 8. As a member of Upton's Personnel Board, Seema recently participated in updating the town's firt Compensation and Classification Study for its employees. The entire family is heavily involved in Cub and Boy Scouting.
Classes are held weekdays, evenings, or weekends, by appointment. The business's e-mail address is techtutor@lycosmail.com. Become productive with your Microsoft Office software! Call Technical Tutoring , software training presented in everyday terminology, at (508) 529-9087.

High-Tech Teaching Eases Fears of Novice Computer Users

by Eileen Ubillos - Milford Daily News, April 16, 1999
You want to be computer literate. You want to be a part of the high tech world and get on the Internet, but it's intimidating. You don't know where to start, what to do, where to go.
Seema Kenney knows the frustration.
It is just for this reason she opened her new business, Technical Tutoring.
"It's computer software training for small businesses and home PC (personal computer) users." said Kenney explaining her training is pretty much for novices or those who have been taught basic computer skills but need to go a little further.
She runs the business out of her 4 Sadler Road home, but as a general rule, she goes to the homes or businesses of her clients.
"I prefer they have the computer in place and I will help them out with learning what they have to do," said Kenney, whose rates vary from $35 to $65 an hour, depending on the number of students.
"Most of it is one on one," she said.
One or two classes are all that are needed to educate the user.
"I just did some training at (Upton) Town Hall with employees there and they all told me they felt so comfortable, it took all the fear away," said Kenney.
"I find out what they need to learn, find out how much time they want to spend and start at a level comfortable for them," said Kenney whose business is only two weeks old.
She worked in insurance administration and group health insurance for Consolidated Group in Framingham before being laid off. She's been in the computer field for 17 years, first starting as a data entry clerk and ending up in management systems.
"They closed the facility last year so I took it as a great opportunity to start my own business. Plus, being out of work it gave me plenty of time to think about how I would go about it," she said.
Kenney gives each of her students a notebook with pages of whatever they've covered so they can always refer back. Her coursework also has exercises as well as a computer disk with practice files.
The articulate Kenney is calm and patient by nature. She said she is sympathetic when people don't catch things real fast and understands how nervous and fearful they can get when trying to absorb new things.
Those in Upton know her as the driving force of the town's Personnel Board. She and the other two members put together the town's first Compensation and Classification Study just completed for the 89 people employed by the town.
The former Seema Bergquist, originally from Connecticut, she holds bachelor degrees in Spanish and political science from Annhurst College, and in business administration and computer systems management from Northeastern University.
She and her husband, Timothy, have three boys, Sean, 11, and twins Ryan and Tyler, 8.
