The success of training is measured by how well the concepts are retained and applied by the student.  However, there are three roles in any training scenario (any combination of which can be held by the same physical person) – motivator, student, trainer.  Each of these plays an important part in successful training, before, during, and after the actual class.

The role of the motivator before and after training is critical to the success of the training.

For example:
The motivator sets the tone prior to training by attending a class, kicking off a class, encouraging the participant to give 100% attention to the class and not worry about “the office.” After training, the motivator discusses the class, reinforces the skills, models the skills, etc.

The role of the trainer is equally important before and during the training session.  The trainer must prepare before the training and must be able to handle the situations that arise during the session, whether they are equipment, personnel, or material related.
